Sewing, Creativity, and Sustainable Craft

We're ortenvalde Ltd, and we've built a community of hobbyists who love discovering fabric treasures at car boots, breathing new life into charity shop finds, and creating beautiful home textiles. Educational resources that actually make sense.

How We Started

ortenvalde Ltd didn't start in some fancy studio. It started in someone's spare room in 2019, surrounded by fabric scraps and a growing pile of brilliant finds from the local car boot sale. We weren't trying to build a business — we were just frustrated. There weren't clear, practical guides for beginners wanting to learn sewing. Most resources were either too vague or assumed you'd already spent months learning.

We've been teaching hobbyists ever since. Started small — just documenting what we learned about upcycling, sourcing fabric, and making things that actually fit in your home. The Liberty fabrics section came next because we became obsessed with the patterns. Then we realised car boot hunting had its own skill set, and we've written extensively about sourcing fabric sustainably without spending a fortune.

Now we work with hundreds of people across the UK who want to get serious about sewing without the gatekeeping. That's who we are.

Our Specialisation

What We Cover

Four areas where we've built genuine expertise through teaching and practice. Everything's grounded in real projects, not theory.

Beginner Sewing Machines

Step-by-step guides for choosing your first machine, threading, tension settings, and basic projects. We cover the confusion most beginners face when the manual makes no sense.

Upcycling Charity Finds

How to spot quality pieces at charity shops, repair and restore them, and transform worn items into something you'd actually wear or display. It's sustainable and satisfying.

Liberty Fabrics Textiles

Making the most of premium fabrics — cushions, curtains, patchwork projects. We show you where to find them, how to work with delicate prints, and what's worth the investment.

Car Boot Fabric Sourcing

Strategy for hunting down vintage fabrics, bargaining tactics, spotting quality, and building a fabric stash. Everything you need to know before 7am at the car boot.

Our Principles

How We Approach Everything

These aren't slogans. They're how we actually work with the sewing community.

Practical Over Perfect

We don't teach fashion-designer techniques. We teach what works for hobbyists in real homes with real budgets. Wonky seams? That's fine. It's finished and it's yours.

Honest About Cost

We're not selling expensive courses or premium materials. We show you how to source smartly, stretch your budget, and enjoy the hobby without financial stress. Car boots and charity shops exist for a reason.

Sustainability Matters

Upcycling isn't just trendy — it's better for the planet and more interesting than buying new fabric every time. We genuinely believe in it, not just as marketing.

Community Over Competition

Hobbyists sharing tips and projects makes everyone better. We've built a space where people help each other, celebrate odd projects, and don't judge beginner mistakes.
